Whoo hooo! Was watching the news, and the Straphanger's Campaign against the fare increase succeeded! Since the rate increase was based on cooked books and dubious public hearings, the Judge has ruled that the MTA has two weeks to roll back the fare hike! (assuming, of course, they don't appeal, which they will.) So looks like I'm not going to take a big hit in the wallet come this June 12th! Drinks are on me! So today was the last day of the R goodbye tour. Couple of co-workers ditched on him, so I went hunting around to take him out to lunch. I've only known the guy 6 months, so it pretty much meant nothing. But then L felt bad and came along to cheer him up too, so it was a good lunch. Sushi and stuff at Niko Niko. I paid, of course, which brings the R going away tour to $67 total. So tonight was the last episode of Dawson's Creek. I figured it was almost a phenomenon. I tried watching episodes this season, but it never quite interested me. Pretty people, nice camera work (or rather cinematographic work), some interestingly cute moments. But overall, nothing really hangs together very coherently. It doesn't help that I can't seem to keep track of what these pretty people are doing. Everybody's in love with everybody else, and every two weeks there's a unexpected suprise that could (but doesn't) change their lives forever. And then Jen dies. Was this series really about her? Are we supposed to care? And what's with the flash forward? The series was about the tediously painful day by day emotion by emotion events in these kids lives. And then we just skip ahead 5 years to season 10? And so only Joey makes it through college? Out of our (admittadly small) sample, Capside High is doing a 25% college rate? (And if we're going to try and count Audrey or Jack, remember, this show isn't about them. They're just there to fill time between Joey scenes.) And who is this Dawson character? Didn't he die in season 3 or something? Long story short, I still don't get it. Although that Joey and Pacey do make a cute couple. But I get the feeling it's mostly Joey. And I never got to see a creek scene. What a gyp.
