Taxicab Blues
Not much to write for today. As per my expectation, I had no time at work to do the things I wanted to do. And on top of it all, my boss and several others decided to hand me big projects, 30 minutes before I was scheduled to leave work. He needs a complete list of clients and present ideas for Christmas, 15 minutes before I leave for vacation? Good luck with that plan. . . . . . . . . . . I had a devil of a time getting a cab on Water Street at 4PM. Contrary to populor belief, there is not plentiful supply of cabs there. There should be, as every corner had a guy looking for a cab, but there were nearly none to be found. I had to truck it over to Fulton street, and I got lucky at that. Well, maybe lucky is too generous a word. My cab, 4S2L wasn't bad, but ... We went to LaGuardia via the Triboro Bridge instead of the BQE. He smoked, although out the window. He didn't have EZPass, so I had to pay the higher cash toll. And he was pretty surley to boot. . . . . . . . . . . Apparently, your photo ID is no longer a big concern at LaGuardia, which in itself was very disconcerting. BUT taking off your shoes is mandatory now. My tip is to put all of your keys and change in a buttoned pocket of your jacket, and then dump your jacket onto the belt. A lot less hassle to deal with when you already have to rush to put your laptop in the laptop bag, grab your carry-on, and put on your shoes. But what really stood out was the sign forbidding pictures of the security checkpoint. Which, of course, raised, a very good question, where was my camera again? Doh. So a frantic call to the office. And a frantic search of the office for proper packing material, involving two interruptions of the big management meeting, and viola! Besides owing my coworker a whole bunch of money on her Fedex account, my camera is now safely on its way to Arizona.
