It's been about a year, and I've run into the guy at least twice before. But today I didn't have the good sense to walk away immediately, as I was trying to make a phone call. Last year, 'round May 5th, after another late night working at the office, I was approached by this guy with a sob story. How he lost his job as a security guard in my building. How his personal life fell apart. How he needed $5 for the night. And I was stupid enough to give him money anyway, even though I knew it was all a lie. Well, I ran into him tonight. And this time I didn't hesitate to tell him I could spare nothing. Inflation on the street must be a killer too, as this time around he's asking for $7.05. 41% jump in cost of living? Did I relocate to Argentina in the middle of the night and not realize it? I won't bother with the details of his last pitch, you can read about them in the link. This time around it was pneumonia, and a place to stay in July. I wonder what story I'll get next year.
