It's All About The Food

So I missed the first half of the big
Friends finale. Which, in retrospect, was not a big deal because apparently I didn't miss any particularly large plot points. Was more then a bit disappointed that the show did not end in the coffee shop ... especially considering that's how the friggn' show STARTS. Hell, the first three seasons was pretty much all about the coffee shop. But I digress ...
I missed it because I was having a slice of pizza. There's this great (if not overpriced or my cheap mind) place at 41 Exchange Place called Cucina Bene (212) 635-0345, that makes some great food. I go there fairly regularly with my coworker. Yesterday we decided to try the sweet pepper pizza slices. 'Twas OK, but too sweet for my taste, I like my pizza a bit salty and tomatoy. But, in quite the surprise, the owner gave us each a free half slice of the chicken tomato pizza. It was fantastic.
Kinda washed the bitter taste of the $2 16oz soda out of our mouths.

So I forgot all about Cinco De Mayo. Not that I'm particularly Mexican, but rather I adhere quite closely to the American tradition of taking other cultures' holidays and turning them into excuses to drink. Or at least enjoy the ethnic cuisine.
So today, after my little impromptu ferry ride I decided to try my hand at the hole in the wall Mexican place in Sunset Park. Los Pollitos I on 59th and 4th Ave in Brooklyn. Was surprisingly chic, to the point where I was worried that it might not be authentic Mexican. I mean, if I want inauthentic Mexican I can always swing by Taco Bell. But I needn't worry, the employees didn't understand English; the owner had to translate my order to the cook. So that was a tasty sign. My two soft chicken tacos were quite nice, in fact. Next time I'll try the quarter chicken.
