Lost Week

So, with Friday fast upon us, it has become readily apparent that this week has perhaps been one of the most unproductive in my lifetime. I think if I stayed in bed I might have gotten more accomplished. But then, for some inane reason I have been going to bed at the ungodly hour of 2am every night. So I think I'll head off to bed right now ... but not before one quick anecdote. :: This week I've also had an unusual freedom. My train buddy co-worker has the week off, and thus she's not dragging me home every night. Which means I've been free to go uptown or downtown to take pictures of explore. Sadly, I've been wasting most of that time trying to get a good picture of some fireflies. It hasn't gone too well. Yesterday I was trying (and trying and trying) at Madison Square Park to get a decent pic. The fireflies, as usual, were not cooperating. As soon as I spot a bunch of them tightly grouped flashing like crazy, and get them into frame, they then both stop and disperse ... all around me. Literally, all around me, ringing me like some effervescent hula hoop of green light. But not in frame. I quickly discarded the tripod idea, and tried to go for simple handheld, which is hard as my hands shake too much for such lowlight conditions. Plus, there was too much light from the many streetlights (stupid safety conscious Parks Department). So, rather then waste an entire evening on a futile task, like yesterday, I decided to play it smart and walk down to Union Square. Get some exercise in, maybe get a few interesting shots along Broadway, and go home at a decent hour. And I pretty much succeed in this effort. Got a few nice shots in. Got to Union Square with a healthy amount of sweat (You're supposed to excercise until you at least sweat. Being uncomfortably sticky is your body's way of telling you that you're actually doing your heart some good.). And had a good bead on a nice black and white picture possibility. Let me just get my tripod out of my bag and set it up. Hmm, must have put it behind my folder by mistake. Maybe the front pocket, it's probably under these old tissues. *shuffle* Crap. The train ride up was short, it was only 1 stop after all. And a nice couple had set up my tripod on the park bench where I had left it, to make it more visible. So thank you very much, whoever you are (I didn't get their names, but they were a nice cute couple) for being so nice.
