Tanglewood

With my Dad, the repertoire of things to celebrate events is very limited. Very limited. Which isn't to say that none of them are necessarily bad, just predictable. This weekend we celebrated the unexpected result of a little legal snafu, that, as it turns out, was probably nothing at all. The celebratory method? A trip to see a concert at Tanglewood. In my morning grogginess, I miscalculated a 5 hour trip to see the 2:30pm concert as meaning we had to leave at 7am. Needless to say, we got there early. Which was a good thing, as we never end up doing that. Sadly, it was for naught, as they had sold out of shed tickets, so we had to settle for lawn tickets. Lawn tickets are pretty much like the New York Philharmonic's Concert in the Park, only more times on better lawn with better sound. People (by which, I mean the old people) come prepared for this like you wouldn't believe: wine, picnic baskets, more folding chairs of every variety then you can imagine, tables of all kinds, giant shade umbrellas, portable electric refridgerators; pretty much everything you can truck to a spot short of hauling an RV onto the lawn. We, on the other hand, were woefully unprepared. We improvised a pair of paper bags and some newspapers to keep the wet grass from ruining our pants. And we brought no food. But all in all, it was a good concert, even if it wasn't the BSO. And afterwards, we finally got to stop at the diner just off the Taconic for some meatloaf. :: MeatLoaf Review: O's Diner (I believe it was known formerly as Chief Martindale Diner) The meatloaf itself was not bad, but not outstanding. There was nothing special at all about the meatloaf, either taste or price-wise. Serving amount was large, with plenty of corn and mashed potatoes to match. Gravy was pleasant, not overpowering or (all too common) too salty. Accompanying salad was small, but felt just right. Dinner roll was, however, either stale or designed to be dry. Onion rings were giant, and tasty to boot. Despite the speed of the service, everything was nice and hot. Overall, nothing special, but perfectly adequate comfort food when you are in the mood. Atmosphere was pleasant upstate diner-ish. Staff was friendly, place was clean, everything you'd expect from looking at the place. The only blemish was that we got the new waitress, possibly not even in high school. She forgot pretty much everything and had to keep coming back to ask clarifying questions. We were already relaxed, so we let it slide. Pictures to follow tomorrow in the photoblog.
