Happy Chusok!
In the hustle and bustle, it gets hard to keep track of the holidays. Especially the ones that don't pop on the american calendar. Chusok, or the Harvest Moon festival is one of those. It's big on the Chinese calendar too, and I regularily go nuts for the mooncakes, in all their lotus seed and egg yolk goodnesss. But since the american calendar has pushed back the traditional harvest festival, Thanksgiving, so far back into winter, it'a hard to remember that this is really the heart of fall. Of course, if you go to the farmer's market, this is readily apparent, as the poor farmers can't give away enough produce. So, what did I do for Chusok? I ate some seng-pyong (minature ricecake with sweet honey filling). I called random family. I had a glass of wine with dinner. Good times. :: OUCH! Yet another lesson not to ask questions you really don't want answers to.
