Tasteless crap is omnipresent in morning radio. It's just something you have to accept, and live with. But there is a line, and it's not too hard for anyone with common sense to find that line. Howard Stern knows that line, but then he's also a brilliant man that gets paid a lot of money to dance as close to it as possible. And now that he's decided that he's tired of dancing, and is ready to roll right over it, he's jumped to satellite radio, where I'm sure his show will experience a drop-off in quality (great art comes from, oddly enough, boundries). But I digress. Hot97 here in NYC has been running a "comedy bit" which essentially is a parody tsunami song that makes fun of the tsunami victims while also using lots of racial slurs. The worst of it, besides the horrid production values, is that pretty much everybody agrees that this is just not funny. Offensive humor is marginally defendable, offensive crap is just crap. BUT, being Hot97, apparently nobody noticed for the week they were airing it. What got me all riled up is when Miss Info, their reporter, began objecting on the air, and then was slammed with more racial slurs, followed by a line about how the co-host is going to go out and shoot some Asians. With requisite laughter by other co-host. Now it's one thing to say these sort of things in the company of friends, I mean, who hasn't engaged in some over-the-top joshing with friends. But the clips I heard made it pretty plain that this was nothing more then thuggary, and possibly even a veiled threat. And I, to use a cliche, was simply outraged. Alas, my righteous indignation has gone wasted, however, for as of today, the entire staff has been suspended indefinetely. Oh, and the fact that Lizzie "I'll Park Where I Want To" Grubman is Miss Jones' publicist isn't really helping the cause here. pwned, bitches!
