The Rock Show

A coworker invited me to see his brother's rock themed play/show tonight, so I went. First of all, besides getting there late, I was also cleaned out of my cash. Entry was $10, and thanks to a big lunch, I only had $2 while the mandatory coat check was $3. Thankfully, my emergency dollar in my bag saved the day. The openning act was none other then Chris Barron, former lead singer of The Spin Doctors (well, as he explained it, it's not "former" anymore, they are back together ... of course nobody knows that yet so he still uses "former"). And that was really fun and cool. The venue was more club then theatre, with a pair of bars (upstairs and downstairs) as well as some seating. I stood throughout the whole show up on the balcony. The show itself was a show within a show. Fictional band celebrating their CD release with a show, so lots of songs. And between songs, throughout the songs, and in the "breaks" in the set, we see and hear the characters and the story unfold. Think of it like Noises Off only for a rock show. Pretty predictable, but entertaining. The music, on the other hand, was fantastic. A more nuanced form of rock then I've heard in a while, and while not as jump up in the air and dance like Dear Leader, it had me dancing in the balcony. It's really too bad the show only had a two night run, I would certainly recommend it. Very much worth the $10 cover and $3 coat check fees. Pictures to come once flickr starts cooperating.
