Timing Is Everything
Just in case you were running low on the cliche tank, today's post is dedicated to the old saw about how timing is everything. Two quick examples from my rather unremarkable day. First of is my Idiotarod pics. They're not very good. I thought they were, but after looking at them, they're not. I actually crouched down in the street to get a better/unique angle ... and ended up shooting crappy 50/50 shots anyway! In getting low, to try and follow the 1/3,2/3 rule, I ended up forgetting all about the rule in the heat of the moment. I might as well have stood up the entire time. I got into some nice positions, such as dead on at the finish line, so as to take dramatic pics of teams racing towards me ... only all those pics came out blurry. If you look through my pics and the literally hundreds of others in flickr, mine are COMPLETELY unremarkable, except for two minor points. 1) Mine have more narration then others, which always helps tell the story. 2) Mine were up first. In fact, as of Sunday night, my set was still the largest collection of Idiotarod pics up in flickr. And being first helps, because my set and my pics still lead the pageview count within flickr. Never underestimate the power of being first on a breaking story. Secondly, is my whole job thingy. I can't say anything about this really, as I don't want to Dooce myself. But if I could go into the past and rearrange the events of these past two months in a different order, I could go to bed a lot easier tonight. Mind you, I'm not talking about changing anything, just putting it into different order. It would really be quite nice, actually. :: Speaking of work, I came back to my cubicle late tonight after a meeting outside, and what should I find? A broken cookie on the floor, and remains of crushed cookie in the middle of my cubicle. THIS, this is why I can't have nice things in the office. Because people just don't respect my space. :: On a completely unrelated matter, I got a little flier outside of work today, which upon reflection I shouldn't have taken. I thought it was a chinese restaurant menu, and I am all about having an ample supply of food menus (because people "borrow" my menus and then forget to return them). But as soon as I got it, I knew it was a mistake. It's actually an invitation to the NTDTV Chinese New Year Global Gala at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. And tickets are $35 a pop. I'm not going, as I don't feel like shelling out $35, and I'm not Chinese (no matter what the ignorant punk kids in my neighborhood say). However, I do feel bad for taking their nice glossy (ie: expensive) invitation. So if you happen to be Chinese, watch NTDTV, and want to go to a gala at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, this this is for you. http://www.newyeargala.ntdtv.com
