Back in the day when I was hosting my own images, I was obsessed with the need to compact my jpgs and my gifs into the smallest size possible. I evaluated a few free programs, and a few others that weren't so free, and I think I even wrote up a little writeup here on this blog. Granted, this tool only works with GIFs, whereas I was looking for something to work with JPGs, but having another good tool in the arsenal is never a bad thing. The fact this is freeware is a really good thing, to boot. I, of course, now just host all my pics on flickr.
