This is why people fear and envy engineers. Most people would have just set up a video camera, taken a week's worth of film, and be done with it. This guy, on the other hand, decides to build a laser sensor timing circuit thingy, and along the way invents an entirely new class of electrical component; which, with the proper selection of metal leads (gold and tin) and board (sun dried tomato and habanero pepper), also happens to be self powered. I don't know if the world is ready for Totilla-Board based electronics.
