Take The Meeting!
I've been flakey. There's no other way to put it. A lot of it is my fault. A good part is other people's. But I've been flakey, and it doesn't make my day any easier. Much of the morning was spend being all insecure. The mid-afternoon was spent actually doing some productive work, and then the rest was just more moving crap that I can't believe I'm still doing. There's a lot more here to be said, but I'll let some time pass before getting all ranty. The long and short of it is that I got to the Brooklyn Flickr Meetup late, which really pissed me off. Raul and Keith were still around, and there's more to that once I get all rested up. The important bit is where I got a phone call in the middle. I'm not good on the phone to begin with, and because I was so flakey today I totally sucked up the conversation. I had no plan, which is always a bad way to start, and then in the middle I totally went all flakey. And yet, I still got another option for the weekend. Option 1 is something I've been looking forward to some time now. Specifically, the awards dinner for the Holy Spirit Bowling League, where I will be awarded my towel of shame for being in a last place team. I'll also get some sort of mention as I was the third most improved male in the league. I've even cancelled a chance to earn an extra $75 on Sunday. It's a big deal for me. Option 2 was an invite to go to a semi-private jazz session. I hemmed, I hawed, and I just barely decided on Option 1. And then I remembered this blog post on Audion. And I remember the lesson well, always take the damn meeting. In my case, it isn't an industry defining company, it's just a jazz session. But it's possibly the home run meeting I've been waiting for. Why would I let it slip through my grip. Tomorrow I'll call up and take the meeting. In the meantime, I suppose I should start my taxes.
