Hopstop: Mapquest for the Subway
I still say that if you have to be someplace by a certain time, your best bet is to fork over the cash and pay a cab, or invest in a good pair of shoes. While it will cost more and/or leave you more sweaty, it's far more reliable then the subway, which will find a way to screw you over and turn a 10 minute ride into a 2 hour hell. That being said, I often get asked for subway directions, because I know most of the system pretty darn well. I like giving the directions, I like to be useful. But I also hate it when people pester me when I'm busy. And that's where hopstop.com comes in. You see, it's just like mapquest, only for subways. Like Mapquest, some of the directions are a bit screwy and could use the guiding hand of personal experience instead. But if you're in a hurry and looking for printable directions that are mostly correct, this is a good way to go. For outo f towners, this is especially valuable, as you won't be stuck trying to interpret a map at the entrance to a busy subway station (My personal pet peeve, btw. If you're party of 30 must stand around, why do you always have to do so in front of the entrance of the subway I'm trying to get to. You, my friend, are the rude one, not the busy New Yorker who has to subsequently run you over.). Anyway, give it a try, it's nifty at the very laest. Link:
