In The Past, Nostalga Used To Be Better
Despite a miscommunication, I went to go see the USS JFK today. The ship is grand, and the sailors and the planes are nice, but what I really go to see is the elevators. The massive elevators that they take you (and normally planes) up and down from the flight deck. They were fantastic, best elevator ride ever. However, they don't live up to memory. I recall that it was smooth seamless deal. Could hardly tell you were moving. That was not the case. Lots of jolting action. Not as much as you would expect from an elevator the size of your house, but still it was there. What I didn't remember, but now will be twisted by my memory, is that when it goes up or down, it sounds a lot like the blast doors shutting closed on Hoth in the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back. Along those same lines, my dinner at Howard Johnson's in Times Square blew. It's clear why the place is half empty all the time, the food blows and the prices are too high. Clearly they must do a lot of business based on the nostagla factor, and curious newbies like me. Trust me, stay away and keep your precious memories intact, because the food really really blows.
