Never Be Nice In This Town
Arthur Chi'en of wcbs got himself fired for saying the fuck word on TV live. I can actually understand why the station did what it did, although I think they overreacted. But Arthur doesn't really stand out, there's nothing terribly special about his reporting, so I figure it was just a quick decision on the station manager's part. I'm sure he'll end up on one of the other networks, get better, get famous, and then wcbs will hire him back at a much greater salary. That's how it always seems to work in NY TV news, unless you're old and a women, in which case you just disappear. The real lesson, however, is that it never pays to be nice. He should have done the New York thing, and slugged the guy. He still would have gotten fired. Only now he's famous too, and with a firey reputation that distinguishes him from the 1,000 other tv reporters in this town. And no jury would ever convict nice TV report vs. intentionally annoying radio station intern heckling said reporter for shock jock stunt ... on XM radio. Link:
