They Might Be Giants
I haven't really sat down and listened to good old TMBG for quite some time now. I haven't kept up with the music scene. Imagine my suprise when I found out that they've done a number of children's songs, and were the featured concert capping off Children's Day & Fireworks at the South Street Seaport. I had to go. I missed the BBQ at Madison Square, I missed the art train, I missed most everything I wanted to do for Saturday, but I made it one time for the rainy concert. Besides the fact that I was surrounded by children ("I've known them before you were born!"), oh and the rain, it was a fun concert. Heard lots of songs I have no idea about. Some were really rockist, and that ... well, rocked. And heard some old classic favorites (Triangle Man hates who?), which took me back quite a bit. I only wish it could have lasted a little longer. :: Afterwards, I figured I'd scout out a good spot for the fireworks show. raced down to Pier 11, and camped out, ready got get some good pics of the fireworks with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. Got a little nervous that they might close the pier, as the security guard kept coming by me. And then an odd thing happened. A fireboat docked at one of the slips. I was in the middle of trying to figure out what that was all about, when the world came to a rather sudden and abrupt end. Or that's what it felt like, as fireworks exploded all above me. Turns out, Pier 11 is the command center, and the fireworks barge was parked just across the river. I had stumbled into front row seating, and it was grand, except for the part where I was totally deafened. I don't think I've ever been that close to a fireworks show. A great way to close out a rather disappointing Saturday.
