MTA Rant Part 293

The MTA is all about moving trains around. They're pretty good at moving trains around. Too bad what they're supposed to be moving around is PEOPLE. The R train stalled at Pacific Street station. There are only three lines that come into and out of this particular platform. The R, the N, and the D. So, guess which line was delayed the longest. Take a guess. If you guessed the R line, you know, the line with the stalled train, you would be wrong. If you guessed the D line, the line with the first train to bypass the stall, you would also be wrong. If you guessed the N line, the only line without back to back trains, you would be entirely correct. Let's step through it, shall we? R train stalls on the local track, shutting down local service from Pacific to 59th. First train to bypass is the D, which is already on the express track. D train runs as normal, which is to be expected, but is the stupidist decision ever. We'll get to that in a moment. 2nd train to bypass the stall is an N train. N is rerouted to run on the R line. Why the N and not the D? Who the fuck knows, but this too is pure stupidity. Why? That brings us to train #3 3rd train to bypass the stall is another D train. It runs as normal. WTF! Now you have back to back D trains running litterally 30 seconds apart. Rather then rerouting the first D train, of which the inconvenienced passangers would have to wait a whopping 30 SECONDS for another D train, the MTA rerouted the N train! And meanwhile on the D line you have 2 trains so bunched together that the second can literally see the taillights of the first THE ENTIRE LINE DOWN. 4th train to bypass the stall is A FUCKING R TRAIN! Why reroute the N train at all if you have an R train waiting right behind it? Oh, I forgot to mention that it runs express! Which means that it will catch the N train at 36th, and now we have back to back trains on the R line. 5th train to arrive is [apoplectic rage]THE FUCKING "STALLED" R TRAIN ITSELF![/apoplectic rage] That's right, now we have 3 trains on the "stalled" line, more then the other two "unstalled" lines PUT TOGETHER! Why bypass anything when the "STALLED" TRAIN isn't stalled at all?! And why is the line with the "delay" running THREE TIMES AS FAST as my normal N line?!?!!! Why reroute my N train when you have both a rerouted R train running express AND the unstalled R train running local less then TWO MINUTES BEHIND?!?!!!?!! 6th train to arrive (after a 5 minute wait, all previous trains had been rolling in one after another nonstop) is my N train. It runs normally. To recap: R train stalls. R line gets three trains D line gets two trains N line gets the last train. *shakes fist at MTA*
