I Know This Line

Why is it so hard to say "I don't know"? Why must everyone be an expert on the subway, when it's plain as day that they know, in fact, nothing? Last night was a typical conversation of misinformation, where I was cast yet again as the bad guy. Except for the fact that I was, of course, absolutely correct. I'm trying to nap, when a gentleman sitting next to me asks a lady on the other side of me (it was on of those corner bench configurations, and I was in the corner) if the train goes to Kings Highway. Now, I groan over this, because I go to Bay Parkway, which is one stop before, and normally people don't go that far down the line, so I get the whole bench to myself. I'm all selfish like that, I just think of myself. Her response, however, gets me all woken up. "Yes it does, but it runs local, maybe you want ..." And this is the part where I have to cut her off and just brusquely state, "This train goes to Kings Highway." "But it runs loca.." "It goes to Kings Highway." And then she gives me the angry evil eye, before giving up in frustration, and shakes her head slightly. I just stare out the window, the guy just sits nervously, and we ride on. Until she gets off at Pacific Street. ... Now, here's the thing. Pacific Street is 15 stations away from Kings Highway, 9 stops if it runs normal express, 11 stops if it runs abbreviated express, 3 stops if it runs special construction express. Pacific is also the very first stop in Brooklyn. If your dumb bitch ass is getting off this early in the line, what makes you think you know anything about how the line operates 15 stations away? Because you know jack shit, lady. In Brooklyn, the N train runs express in Manhatten, and express in Brooklyn, except late nights, sometimes during evening rush (between 36th and 59th), and weekends (depending on construction). That last part is key, because the weekends are totally dependant on construction. Now, since I happen to actually live on the line, and took it in the morning, I know that the N train was running express between Pacific and 59th streets, and also the special bypass between 59th and King's Highway in the Coney Island bound direction. But I wasn't too sure when the construction schedule shifted to the normal weekend service (sometimes it's as early as 7pm on Sunday), so I wasn't afraid to say "I'm not sure," when the guy asked me how many stations were left. I happenned to be right in my express guess, and three stops later (as opposed to 15), we were at Kings Highway. Or, in summary, between 42nd street in Manhattan and Kings Highway Brooklyn (about an hour's ride), the N Train was running express the whole time. ... Now I think the Q runs local to Kings Highway, while the B runs express, but as I don't regularily ride those lines, I don't know. But since we were all on the N train, that's a moot point. I think the 4 Diamond runs express in the Bronx, but if you're trying to get into Queens on the F train, who cares? So don't be giving me that look of frustrated impatience, bitch, because unlike your Pacific Street ass, I actually know this line. Almost.
